Back before Paul Newman founded The Hole in the Wall Gang, we had our own version at UT-Austin, at the dive bar across the street from The Daily Texan offices. After 30 years, a bunch of us converged to relive our youth last weekend. Like the geezers in Cocoon, we didn’t want to leave the pool. One of the most fascinating aspects was how this meet-up took on a life of its own based on a casual Facebook aside. As you might gather from Richard Steinberg’s account in The Austin Chronicle , the late 70s-early 80s was an amazing time to be in Austin and at the University of Texas, especially working on that small daily miracle, The Daily Texan.
